tech-note using Elcomsoft Distributed Password Recovery

If you want to use a custom word dictionary with ElcomSoft Distributed Password Recovery (Break complex passwords, recover strong encryption keys and unlock documents in a production environment) (I’m using version 2.96 currently), then try this:

First, you have to save your dictionary (which is in fact just the word list, one word per line) into UNICODE, and give it *.udic extension. Then, put that file into the following folder (on server and all agents; automatic distribution of dictionaries from the server to agents is not implemented yet):

%PROGRAMFILES%\Elcomsoft\Common Files\dic\

%PROGRAMFILES% usually points to ”C:\Program Files\” on 32-bit systems and ”C:\Program Files (x86)\” on 64-bit ones. Then, restart the console, and you should be able to use the newly added (custom) dictionaries.

Thanks to V.Katalov for the instructions.
